“VOLE AU VENT” by JERÔME MESNAGER
Jérôme Mesnager was particularly delighted to paint a horse in support of JustWorld because his artwork is typically conducted on flat surfaces. He chose to paint two white men, one on each side of the horse, which allows the viewer to visualize the entire character, regardless of which side he sits on. The life-size man was created in a position where he seems to become one with the horse. As for the seagulls, they are there to remind you that you are in La Baule!
JERÔME MESNAGER - BIOGRAPHY
Jérôme Mesnager, born January 30, 1961, in Colmar, is a French painter. He is one of the first Parisian street painters. Throughout the last 30 years, his art has become an artistic movement, commonly called "urban art.” The son of an engineer, Jérôme Mesnager studied at Boulle School to become a cabinetmaker and later became a teacher there. In 1979, he studied comics with Yves Got and Georges Pichard, professors at the Duperré Higher School of Applied Arts. He is one of the founders of Zig-Zag, a group of ten young artists who draw graffiti on abandoned factories. Mesnager explained, “I make paintings in which the canvas is the world.”
On January 16, 1983, he invented the “Man in White,” as a "symbol of light, strength and peace.” Mesnager has reproduced it throughout the world, from the walls of Paris to the Great Wall of China.
